Northshore Youth Football - Titans

A Tradition of Excellence and Champions
Don't settle for second best. We don't
Member Pop Warner Little Scholars

Register for 2012 NOW!  Enrollment is first come first served and some teams are already full. The schedule page has the 2011 and current info.

2011 was our best season yet - record numbers of smiling faces and wins. North Shore Youth Football is the largest football program in the area with 1st – 8th graders feeding into ALL LOCAL High Schools. We are not a single community or Park District team. NSYF provides the best youth sports experience with the highest level of instruction. Our goal is for our players to develop a love for and continue to play the sport that teaches life lessons like no other.  We are champions on and off the field and have a weekly character building curriculum, a 501C3, member Pop Warner, Positive Coaching Alliance, NFL Youth Partner, USA Football.

We provide a fun place for kids to play of all sizes and skill levels. Our 45 man strong coaching staff is lead by 14 year NFL veteran and Chicago Bear Fred Miller who along with our president Mark Rice help make the players strong in mind, body, and skills. We differentiate ourselves from other programs: low player/coach ratio, age/weight divisions for safety, character building, HUDL game film and TV broadcasts, scholarships, academics, concessions and PA, local, regional and national playoffs/tournaments, spring training... We have competed in National Championships in Orlando Florida and Las Vegas. Experiences for a lifetime

Champions - For some only the score of the game matters, but true champions are measured by what they contribute everywhere in life, both on and off the field. Teamwork - A commitment to help every teammate succeed and reach a common goal of success. Attitude - Attitude is everything... It begins with committing to yourself, your coach, and your team a desire for excellence. Determination - Knowing that if you work at something hard enough you will eventually be rewarded with many levels of success.

Character Development Program

We appreciate having you and your son as part of our program. The game of football is in many ways like life. In order to be successful on the football field you have to listen, try hard, set goals, be consistent, persevere, finish and be selfless. These are all character traits that serve our players beyond the football field.

To augment the lessons the boys learn on the field we are implementing the Foundations Character Development program for our players. Each week a different Foundations theme will be discussed. An e-mail will come to you weekly and will have a 1 page poster that will highlight that week’s theme. Please have your son tape it up in a prominent place.

The e-mail includes a character lesson on subjects like perseverance, selflessness, humility, consistency and teamwork and will include a video that will bring that week’s theme to life. All materials are G - rated. Each team will present the weekly Foundation Award to the player who exhibits the character theme traits the best.

Please join us after practice, listen to the discussion, and awards ceremony. Our coaching staff is trained to use positive reinforcement practices as well as using unique team bonding methods. We hope to be augmenting what you are teaching at home. Hearing the same thing from someone other than mom or dad gives more credibility to the message and primary messenger - you. Please support us in this effort, we want this year’s football experience to be special, not just for this season but for the years to come. - Coach Rice

North Shore Youth Football & Cheerleading Joins Pop Warner, Nation’s Premier Youth Football Organization
Off Season Includes Conditioning and a 7-on-7 Championship!

Winnetka, IL—May 29, 2011— Northshore Youth Football has aligned its program with Pop Warner Little Scholars, Inc. (PWLS), a not-for-profit organization founded in 1929. The Trevians made the move, in part, because PWLS emphasizes the importance of academics just as much as it does safety and championship-caliber athletics.

“There has been a shift toward joining Pop Warner throughout the Chicago area,” said North Shore Youth Football President Mark Rice. “Focus on academics was certainly an appealing reason for us to join the organization, but we also felt the Pop Warner program offered far more tradition, experience and structure that better aligns with our organization’s core values.”

It became clear that Pop Warner was a better match for the student-athletes who participate in the North Shore program. Both Maine South HS and Evanston HS Feeder Programs, who are two of the top programs in the state, also joined Pop Warner with NSYF.

“Pop Warner’s philosophy has been that athletics and scholastics go hand in hand,” Rice said. “Pop Warner seeks to develop well-rounded young men who learn not only the fundamentals of football, but the importance of education in an atmosphere conducive to developing sound character while having fun.

“These heightened commitments proved to be a strong fit for the Trevian program, which also focuses on teaching its athletes about the importance of safety, community and character, as well as how to build confidence and have fun in a truly competitive environment.”

Chicagoland Pop Warner is the largest and most competitive youth football league in Illinois and part of PWLS which is also the most competitive nationally. Hundreds of thousands of athletes participate in Pop Warner athletics around the country. PWLS is a Partner of the NFL, provides support services, academic scholarships, grants and local/regional/national tournaments. The organization enables every child a place to play with age/weight protected divisions which help make the for most comprehensive competitive youth football athletics.

Off Season Notes:

NSYF athletes have participated in many off season strength- and speed-training drills taking place in Winnetka and Glencoe. Training sessions included running, jumping and agility exercises. Players met weekly for eight weeks to participate in the drills.

NSYF Coaches Director and 14 year NFL veteran Fred Miller said the added practice not only helps keep athletes in physical shape and improve their technique, but also conditions them to maintain involvement with athletics during a busy school season.

“We want our athletes to stay active not just physically, but mentally during the off season,” Coach Miller said. “Attending workouts during the week days helps teach our athletes how to prioritize their time so they learn how to maintain academic obligations while also excelling at athletics.

7-on-7 Tournament Champions:

Members of the Northshore Youth Football 8th grade 7 –on- 7 football team won their Chicagoland Championships May 16, 17 and 23. Eight teams from the Chicago area competed and the team came out on top as the tournament’s champions.

In addition to NSYF, teams included the Chicago Eagles, Palatine PHS, Chicago Vikings, St. Viator (Arlington Heights), St. Peter and Paul (Naperville), Hersey (Arlington Heights) and Burlington.

The North Shore team advanced through Championship Tournament by beating St. Peter & Paul in the first round, Burlington Panthers in the second round and Chicago Eagles in the Championship match. Players on the team were from Winnetka, Wilmette and Glencoe and were coached by Coaches Bond and Manchester. “It’s great to see our athletes look for opportunities to compete outside the core programs we offer through the Northshore program,” NFL veteran and head coach Fred Miller said. “Of course, winning is not everything, it’s not even something we emphasize all the time, but it sure is fun when it happens.”

New Trier Head Football Coach Dan Starkey said “Congratulations to the 8th graders on their 7-on-7 championship.”

North Shore Youth Football Wins National Championship

November 19, 2009  - For the first time in the history of the organization, the North Shore Youth Football Junior Pee Wees will play in the Chicagoland American Youth Football Super Bowl. The team beat Homewood last weekend in the semi-finals. Winning the AYF South Division, they will play against Leyden at Addison Trail High School for the Midwest AYF Championship.

Mark Rice of North Shore Youth Football said the Junior Pee Wees are 6th graders and are head coached by Chicago Bear Fred Miller. The team, which reports about half its players coming from Glencoe and Winnetka and the rest from other suburbs, has a record of 13-1 this season, improved from 1-9 last season. The team has had extra work and special events, including spring training, extra scrimmages, and game film study sessions Rice said. The team travelled to Las Vegas over Thanksgiving and won games against teams from Arizona and California to bring home the 2009 National Youth Football Championships. -- Liza Roche
